Sirens was born at the Oxbow residency out of the study of the mythology of Sirens and Mermaids. According to Greek mythology, the Siren was originally believed to possess knowledge beyond that of humankind and to posses artistic talents expressed through song and musical instrument. As the depiction of the siren devolved, the mermaid became a vain, beautiful creature who's sole purpose was to seduce men. This ongoing project returns the Siren to its origin and explores other cultural mythologies with similarity to the Siren, while representing a broader community of people and their individual expressions of strength, artistry, sensuality.
